Ever since I started out this blog, there is one thing
I can be sure about doing on time, it’s writing the eoy blogpost. And this year shall not be different.
Tbh, 2020 has been one hell of a year, peeps.
Like honestly peeps, a year ago, if you told me what 2020 had in reserve for us all, I wouldn’t have spent the little money I usually do on firecrackers to celebrate New Year. I would have stayed inside my house and watch tv till I fall asleep on the couch. Now we all are going to look back at this year from the corner of the eyes, pretending as if we are not even looking at it. But that isn’t going to change it, is it? Marked by a pandemic, a blow on the world economy and a light at the end of tunnel in the form of the vaccines, we are now preparing to welcome 2021 more cautiously than ever.
However, I would like to look at 2020 in a good light-
From the view of The Common Island Girl, because I want to bring out the
positive and good things it brought me, overlooking all the negative aspects
for a while.
- · The Lockdown
Despite all the negative connotations associated with the word “lockdown”, I felt that it was a good thing to take a break from the world for a while. I celebrated my birthday on the 21st of March, which was on the 2nd day of the lockdown in Mauritius. I enjoyed the confinement because my skin became clearer and brighter, I worked out from time to time, I read the books that were lying on my shelves for quite long and successfully finished some of them, I spent a lot of time in the kitchen trying out new recipes and amending them according to the ingredients I had on hand, and oh yes, there was the Dalgona coffee phase as well- my favourite phase. I got to spend quality time with my sister. Nishee by doing the MCU movies marathon and the Harry Potter one. Those were the days I’d cherish. Of course, not to mention cleaning the house as if every day was New Year’s Eve. I procrastinated a lot. I enjoyed being lazy. There was no deadlines, no rush to get things done, no running around to get things done within a limited time frame. I was stress-free. I am not one who will complain about staying at home.

All happy-events
post the Lockdown
This year is not only special because it is the only year where the first 2 digits match the last 2 digits, but also because our family got to witness some of the most important milestones achieved by both Nishee and I.
We both earned our Master’s degree together, after 2 years of hard work.
We both got engaged this year- she got engaged on her birthday in July and I recently got engaged in November.
I consider each of these events as important accomplishments because in all of them, we made our parents proud and happy. Those were exceptionally the days when we were not scolded.
From a general perspective, a few great things that could be retained from this year is that a work from home revolution has started. Most people have got the opportunities to rediscover their old love for their hobbies. We have become more creative about our vacations. And the carbon emissions has dropped considerably this year, isn't that a great news? Let's also not forget that 2020 shall be remembered as the year where the term "heroes" has been redefined. Every professional class considered as essential workers during the lockdown has been personified as Heroes.
No matter how 2020 has been, I believe that the year deserves a proper send-off. Let’s be grateful for all the good things we have got, leave behind all the negative things, and realigned ourselves to focus on creating a better 2021 (hopefully!). I remember last year, I wrote that 2020 should be the year where you focus on your well-being and remove whatever is draining your energy, I believe that this should be carried forward to 2021 as well.
I hope that after this life altering year, we are going to look at 2021 with the intention of cultivating happiness, setting a positive mind-set and looking forward to get to choose to follow our intuitions to infinite opportunities that life hands over to us as we go on. Here’s me wishing you all, a Happy New Year!
Till the next post,
