If you are going in the direction of China Town in Port Louis, head to 32, Dr Joseph Rivière Street where there is found a small and cozy coffee shop called The Log Café.
How did I discover The Log Café?
Not so long ago, during the festive period of December, my friend, Kamilah and I went out for shopping when we both spotted this interestingly attractive looking coffee shop. Since we were then both in a hurry to reach our respective offices as we were running out of time, we promised each other that our next meeting would definitely be The Log Café. But in between came our mundane activities that kept us postponing our lunch plan, until we recently made it a must to catch up.
The D-Day
We were warmly welcome as we passed through the door. Tbh, friendly staff and owners always make
everything better. So, my first impression of The Log Café was:"ooouuuhhh,
so instagrammy!" Instagrammy forms part of
my daily vocabulary, btw. Before
even checking out the menu card, I was exploring every corner of this lovely
place.
The deco is very nice. It is not a huge place and can accommodate approximately 10-15 people. It is a perfect spot if you are not much into crowded place, and it's very quiet and peaceful. No wonder why it's also referred to as "Your Urban Retreat". I love the settings of the wooden white table in the middle, a wooden rustic bar and the couch along with the small coffee table. The space has been well utilised and you can move around easily. The place is dominated with a large window by the bar, looking out on the street of Dr. Joseph Rivière, allowing natural light to brighten the space and also, making it hard for passersby to miss this spot. If you take a look at the ceiling, you will notice the lights inside a log hanging- which is in line with the name of the coffee shop. The vibes are positive- which makes it a nice place to be.
Since the place was empty at the time we reached there, we chose to be seated on the couch, to avoid being disturbed later on, in case more people would come. And also, because it was the best place to be able to catch up with gossips.
The Mirror behind me gives another dimension to the place and creates the impression that the place is bigger than it actually is! |
Now THE MENU...
Our Lunch |
The layout of the menu card is very simple and easy to understand. The menu in itself is limited variety-wise but it has the essential. Price-wise, I would say really good and the plus point is that if you and your friend are taking the same thing, you get a discount. In less than Rs200, you can have food to fill in your tummy. BTW, the Log Café also offers some nice pastries which sure looks good to the eyes but I am yet to try. Since it was the first time I was there, I wanted to try its Quiche au Poulet which is fait-maison. So my friend and I ended up ordering the same thing- Quiche au Poulet, Salad and A Virgin Blueberry Mojito..Yaayy..My favourite drink for the moment!
I love the square plates in which they served the food. Presentation-wise, it's basic. Taste-wise, I would say that the Quiche is okay. Not what I expected, but it was okay. Personally for me, the portion of food served was okay since I do not have a huge appetite (My grandma says I have the appetite of a bird!) However, Kamilah confessed to me that she is willing to pay more for a bigger portion, which I think, is fair enough.
The Concept of The Log Café
I found The Log Café quite unique in itself and I honestly love the innovative concept of Eat-Shop-Connect, that is, along with a coffee shop, it is also a gift shop where you can find lots of lovely goodies such key-chains, mugs with funky sayings, mason jars, fancy notebooks, chic water bottles, cool t-shirts, tote bags, cute infusion collection boxes, amongst many others. Oh yes, allow me to emphasize on the originality of the products- most of them are exclusively available there. The So, if you are working in Port Louis, you have limited lunch time and you also need to go and buy gifts for your loved ones, then The Log Café is your destination. I have already made my list of what I will buy from there next time. Colourful, fancy stuffs always win my heart. I am not going to comment on the Wi-fi because I did not use it- I was too busy gossiping with Kamilah.
What is my say about this place?
The Log Café deserves to be called The Urban Retreat for it is a very quiet and peaceful place. I would also say that this place makes a nice stop for a refreshing drink, if you have been walking around in Port Louis for quite long. Kamilah and I were there for 1 hour and we had our lunch, discussed about stuffs- there was no disturbance. Even when other people were there, we could still have a proper conversation without disturbing others. I would therefore say that this coffee shop is a great place to catch-up with your friends or even if you could just book the place for some important meeting over lunch-specially if you are a small group.
Kamilah and I feel that the Log Café still have room for improvement-presentation wise and portion wise. We had a great time over there. We enjoyed our food and it was value for money. This place definitely deserves a go-to. And fyi, we are both eager to go back there soon for coffee and cake time. Hoping that this time, it will not be postponed due to other commitments. So, this is definitely not the last time you are going to see me posting photos of this lovely coffee shop on my Instagram Account. Such an Instagram Addict I am! And also, I will have to go back there for shopping!
If you are planning to go there for either lunch or coffee, the address is 32, Dr. Joseph Rivière Street, Port Louis and also you can check out their Facebook Page The Log Café where they have posted photos of the proposed menus and products. Hoping to see you beautiful people there one day!
This quote is what won my heart because coffee always makes me happy. |
Before I end this post, I would like to point out that some of the photos were taken by Kamilah (She took the candid pics of mine!) and this post conveys our opinions(both of us together). I really hope that you have enjoyed reading it as much as I have enjoyed writing it for you.
Till the next post,
